In honor of the 19th Amendment, I highly recommend the viewing of Iron Jawed Angels. It’s an HBO movie about the darker side of women’s suffrage. You may not of heard of the main characters (Alice Paul, Lucy Burns, and Carrie Chapman Catt), but by the time the movie is over, you will understand what they went through much better.
Violent attacks, unconstitutional arrests, and force-feeding are just a few of the things these women went through to get the right to vote. It’s important to know and see what women get through to get where we are now, as women and as human beings. Also, it’s a great movie. Even those of you who aren’t fans of Hilary Swank will be impressed. It was nominated for five Emmys. Take a look.
